SUMMARY:ANA LUGOJANA
DESCRIPTION:Ana Lugojana: A Charming Operetta Celebrating Romanian Spirit \nThe delightful and joyous operetta Ana Lugojana\, composed by Filaret Barbu in 1950\, brings to the stage an authentic Romanian celebration\, evoking the spirit of the traditional village life of yesteryear. Drawing inspiration from Romanian folklore\, this three-act operetta blends classical music with refined interpretations of traditional melodies from Banat and Transylvania\, showcasing and preserving the national spirit. \nWith a libretto penned by V. Timuș\, Petre Andreescu\, and Al. Șahighian\, Ana Lugojana masterfully portrays the vibrant life of a village near Lugoj. Its story is interwoven with songs\, dances\, and choral pieces\, all bearing the unmistakable essence of authentic folklore. Memorable songs like “Ana Lugojana\,” Sandu’s aria “Life is Beautiful”\, and the Ana-Sandu duet “You Know It Too When We Were Kids” stand out for their melodious charm and lyrical depth\, solidifying the operetta’s status as a cornerstone of Romanian lyrical theater. \nThe action unfolds in mid-autumn\, during the grape harvest on the estate of Count Wertherpollo. Among the cheerful and industrious villagers\, childhood friends Ana and Sandu take center stage. The unexpected arrival of the Count disrupts the estate’s harmony\, particularly for the corrupt steward Adolf Pfitzner\, who attempts to cover up discrepancies in the production records. Adding vibrancy to the scene is Nica Iancu Iancovici\, a renowned violinist\, who performs a song inspired by Ana\, the beautiful village girl. \nIn the second act\, the story deepens with romance and drama. Nica confesses his love for Ana\, sparking rivalries. Jealousy flares in Miss Fany Pfitzner\, while her brother Tony’s meddling adds further complications. Sandu\, meanwhile\, conceals his feelings for Ana\, urging her to choose a “serious man”—secretly hoping he will be her choice. However\, when Nica announces his intention to marry Ana\, Sandu expresses his unspoken love in a heartfelt aria. \nThe operetta’s finale brings resolution and joy. The Pfitzner family’s schemes are exposed\, and Sandu is cleared of false accusations. Ana\, freed from her promise to Nica\, reunites with her true love\, Sandu. \nAna Lugojana is more than an operetta—it is a tribute to Romanian values and traditions. Through music\, dance\, and story\, the production transports audiences to a world brimming with charm and authenticity\, preserving the spirit of the mid-20th-century Romanian village. This performance is a heartfelt homage to Romanian folklore and music\, bridging the past and present with emotion and artistry. \nThe performance is interpreted in Romanian without supertitles. \nRecommended age: 7+ \n
