SUMMARY:Souvenir d’un lieu cher
DESCRIPTION:Cluj Chamber Music Festival\, now in its 4th edition\, proposes a new perspective on chamber music — an open space where tradition and experimentation coexist. The programme moves across styles and eras\, from Renaissance polyphony to jazz and crossover projects\, bringing together international artists\, established musicians\, and emerging performers. Set within a network of unconventional venues — from churches to inner courtyards and alternative spaces — the festival creates connections and invites audiences to rediscover chamber music beyond conventional frameworks. \nThe concert Souvenir d’un lieu cher proposes a musical journey in which the idea of memory and space unfolds alongside the dialogue between violin and piano. At the centre of the programme lies this ever-shifting relationship: at times tense\, at others perfectly balanced\, where the two instruments either contend for the musical discourse or merge into a shared expression. \nThe repertoire includes the Sonata in E minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — Souvenir d’un lieu cher\, Op. 42 and Valse sentimentale — alongside pieces by Antonín Dvořák\, Josef Suk\, and other Romantic miniatures. Traversing different stylistic stages\, the programme highlights the evolution of the chamber discourse for violin and piano\, alternating between ensemble moments and soloistic passages in which each instrument becomes\, in turn\, the main carrier of expression. \nAbout the artists \nViolinist Valentin Șerban\, winner of the George Enescu International Competition\, is a musician with a distinctive artistic path\, combining the rigour of academic training with a personal and independent approach to interpretation. \nPianist Mihai Diaconescu\, trained in Romania and at the Sibelius Academy\, is an artist with an extensive concert activity\, performing on important European stages and collaborating with prestigious orchestras and musicians. \nWe invite you on Friday\, May 15\, at 8:00 PM\, to the Bánffy Castle Răscruci for a concert in which music settles into a space rich in memory\, and the dialogue between violin and piano gains a distinctive expressive depth. \nCluj Chamber Music Festival – 4th edition – does not propose a formula. It proposes a state of mind.A festival that does not tell you how to listen to chamber music\, but invites you to rediscover it.
