DESCRIPTION:Opera in three acts on a libretto by Cesare Sterbini\, based on Pierre Beaumarchais’ play Le Barbier de Séville \nRecommended Age: 7+ \nOne of the most comical\, animated\, and long-awaited operas ever written\, Gioachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville always cheers our performance hall and is met\, at each presentation\, with roaring applause by the public of Cluj. \nThe performance again brings Figaro\, the humorous\, courageous\, and romantic Spanish barber\, on stage\, who gives a charming touch to the love story between the restless Count Almaviva and beautiful Rosina. Gioachino Rossini’s work had had huge success ever since its 1816 absolute premiere when it opened with the initial\, otherwise suggestive title of Almaviva (The Useless Precaution). The funny barber is even now topping the bills of opera theatres worldwide. \nIn the enchanting and colorful 18th-century Seville\, Figaro is the barber loved by the entire city\, who helps fulfill Rosina and Count Almaviva’s great love. However\, there is a huge challenge\, because Rosina is also chased by her old tutor\, Bartolo\, who has the advantage of being helped by Basilio\, the young woman’s music teacher. \nThe opera’s atmosphere of love and humor is given by the multiple tricks that Count Almaviva and Figaro resort to to approach the beautiful lover and declare their love. The final scene\, where Figaro and the Count enter Rosina’s house at midnight\, climbing on her balcony-propped stairs\, provides a more passionate air to the three-act bouffe masterpiece. Rosina’s heart experiences the utmost joy when Almaviva bends on his knees to offer his love\, wealth\, and name. The ardent declaration is also joined by teacher Basilio\, bribed by Bartolo’s adversaries\, who becomes a witness to the lovers’ marriage. The old and glum Barolo arrives too late to stop their union and is only consoled by the fact that he gets to keep Rosina’s dowry\, which Almaviva has given up. \nThe performance has two breaks and ends around 10.00 p.m. \nThe performance is in Italian with Romanian supertitles.

This year\, the anniversary is celebrated with the opera gala “Va\, pensiero”\, organised by UBB Cultural (provided by Mobexpert) in partnership with the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca\, on Wednesday\, 4 November 2026\, at 6:30 p.m.\, on the stage of the Cluj Opera House. \nThe Choir and Orchestra of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca\, conducted by Tiberiu Soare\, will be joined by soprano Apollónia Egyed\, tenor Cristian Mogoșan\, baritone Florin Estefan\, and bass Petre Burcă. \nThe Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco\, known by its opening words\, “Va\, pensiero”\, was first heard at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 1842. Its evocation of thoughts soaring towards a lost homeland soon came to be regarded as an unofficial anthem of freedom and the dignity of a community. Gripping drama and buffo elements don’t shy away from coming together in the two performances – two one-act operas that have made an impression on the operatic world. \nInspired by Didier Gold’s drama La Houppelande\, the darkest of Puccini’s operas\, Il Tabarro centers on the idea of the passage of time\, metaphorically embodied by the moment of sunset\, the season of autumn and\, above all\, the slow flow of the river Seine\, around which the whole story develops. This one-act opera tells the short story of the boat owner Michele\, who suspects his young wife Giorgetta of being unfaithful. Filled with subplots and characters that bring to life the sights and sounds of 1900s Paris\, the opera reaches a dramatic conclusion when Michele unexpectedly surprises his wife’s lover and kills him\, then covers his body with his cloak. \n***** \nInspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy\, the action of Puccini’s delightful comedy Gianni Schicchi is set in Florence in 1299. DESCRIPTION:Opera in four acts on a libretto by Salvadore Cammarano\, after Antonio García Gutiérrez’s Il trovador  \n\n\n\nThe astounding success of the opera The Troubadour (\,\,Il trovatore”) at the time of its 19 January 1853 premiere enabled it to be later placed within the “popular trilogy”\, next to the other two of Verdi’s masterpieces – Rigoletto and Traviata. The body of the composer’s dramatic works already included patriotic topics or subjects borrowed from English (William Shakespeare\, Lord Byron)\, French (Victor Hugo)\, German (Friedrich Schiller)\, and Romantic literature\, when he approached the writings of his Spanish contemporary\, Antonio García Gutiérrez (1813-1884) and the drama El trovador. \nThe action of the opera The Troubadour developed during the four suggestively titled acts (The Duel\, The Gypsy Woman\, The Son of the Gypsy Woman\, and The Punishment) takes place in 15th-century Spain and focuses upon Count Alvaro di Luna\, Manrico\, and Countess Leonore de Seze\, with whom both men are in love. However\, the intrigue of the story grows deeper than Count di Luna’s jealousy of his rival\, troubadour Manrico\, whom Leonora also loves. The disappearance some time ago of the Count’s brother\, Garcia\, kidnapped and killed\, apparently by an old witch\, still lingers upon the present: while the Count tries to avenge his brother\, the Gypsy Azucena\, daughter of the witch\, is burnt on the pyre\, and Manrico’s mother tries to punish the di Luna family harshly. \nWe are looking forward to seeing you discover an enthralling romantic\, maternal\, filial love story\, a story of cruelty and revenge born at the ill-fated intersection of the two extremely divergent worlds of nobility and of the simple Gypsies! \nThe performance has three breaks and ends around 9.30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Opera in three acts on a libretto by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni\, based on the homonymous play by Carlo Gozzi and its adaptation by Friedrich Schiller \nTurandot\, the last opera of Giacomo Puccini\, finished\, due to the composer’s death\, by his student Franco Alfano\, stands out especially by the way it depicts the feelings of love that stand at the basis of the action. \nThe story takes place in a distant time\, in the fairy-tale world of Peking\, led by the authoritarian princess Turandot. Firmly determined to keep her purity and independence\, she meets her presumable suitors with three difficult riddles and\, in case they are not solved correctly\, with a death sentence. Despite Calaf’s unexpected triumph\, the princess refuses to accept him as her husband. Unfortunately\, the challenge that the „foreigner” threw out to her\, as well – that Turandot discovers his name – will end with Liù’s (Calaf’s slave) supreme sacrifice\, as she tries to protect her master. Her gesture deeply affects the princess. In the end\, Turandot admits the feelings she first denied\, in front of Calaf and the entire citizenry\, making everyone happy. \nWhile Chinese melodies and the oriental sonorities bring genuineness to the opera\, the brilliant vocal lines of the soloists successfully depict both the internal conflict of the heroine and the bravery\, passion\, and willpower of the male lead. Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet has captured the hearts and sparked the imaginations of audiences of all ages worldwide since its premiere at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on December 6\, 1892.
