LYA HUBIC OPERA STUDIO is the only cultural-artistic program in Romania dedicated to the training and development of young opera artists. Designed as a tool for personal growth, a catalyst for community, and a means to break down social barriers, the “Lya Hubic” Opera Studio is a visionary initiative that continues the mission of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca to reach the highest international standards of artistic synthesis and lyrical excellence, offering new and brilliant horizons for young talents.

The excellence and grandeur of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, now more than a century after its first curtain rise, remain as vibrant as ever thanks to its innovative projects and the young artists we aim to guide at the start of their careers, providing them with the ideal framework for debuts and the accumulation of professional experience that only the stage can offer.

Thus emerged the initiative of the “LYA HUBIC” OPERA STUDIO, a modern and unique concept of an opera studio, materialized under the auspices of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, as an international lyrical project for the selection, promotion, and professional development of young artists.

The “Lya Hubic” Opera Studio thus becomes a catalyst and an extraordinary opportunity to advance in the chosen artistic career, by opening doors to aspiring young artists through auditions, a rich array of training, masterclasses in artistic craftsmanship, repertoire classes, and seminars focused on development and performance, all under the careful guidance of internationally renowned artists and highly esteemed masters.

The Lya Hubic Opera Studio offers a full-time program running from October 2024 to June 2025.

While there is no upper age limit for applicants, it is important to note that the program is highly intensive. It is designed to support exceptionally talented artists – singers, repetiteurs, conductors, and stage directors – who are in the early stages of their professional operatic careers. Although not a strict requirement, applicants are generally expected to have some performance experience and to have been undergoing training for several years.

The selection process for the Lya Hubic Opera Studio (LHOS) involves several key steps:

1. Application Submission:

– video recordings of two arias from the international repertoire, one of which is recommended, but not mandatory, to be in French. These video materials should be sent via Youtube links/Drive links

PIANISTS, CONDUCTORS, STAGE DIRECTORS

Candidates must fill in the registration form by the deadline of October 5th, 2024, followed by a short letter of intention.                   .

2. Auditions and Interviews:

The submitted applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts who will evaluate the technical skill, artistic expression, and overall potential of each applicant. Shortlisted candidates may also be invited to an online interview to discuss their experience, aspirations, and suitability for the intensive LHOS program. 

3. Final Selection: Based on the performance in the auditions and interviews, the final selection of up to 12 singers, 2 pianists, 2 stage directors, and 2 conductors will be made. Successful candidates will be notified and provided with further details about the program.

 🎶The Lya Hubic Opera Studio (LHOS) offers several exciting highlights for its participants:

Intensive Training: The program runs from October 2024 to June 2025, providing a comprehensive and immersive training experience, through its masterclasses and mentorship programs.

Expert Faculty: Participants will receive guidance and mentorship from renowned opera professionals, including vocal coaches, directors, and conductors.

Performance Opportunities: The program includes numerous performance opportunities, allowing participants to showcase their talents in various settings, such as various concerts, roles/understudy during ONRCN season, and the casting for the studio opera projects (projects to be considered: Les Pêcheurs de Perles by Georges Bizet.)

Masterclasses and Workshops: Regular masterclasses and workshops will be conducted by industry experts, covering a wide range of topics from vocal technique to stagecraft. 

The first session is scheduled from 17 – 27th of October 2024, in Cluj-Napoca, and includes world-renowned artists, such as soprano Tatiana Lisnic, Metropolitan Opera assistant conductor and vocal coach Liora Maurer, and stage director Sharon Mohar.

Career Development: The LHOS focuses on the holistic development of its participants, offering career advice, audition preparation, and networking opportunities within the opera community.

Collaborative Environment: Participants will work closely with their peers, fostering a supportive and collaborative atmosphere that encourages artistic growth.
