One-act operas from Il Trittico by Giacomo Puccini
Suor Angelica is a one-act opera, on a libretto written by Giovacchino Forzano. The story follows the life of Sister Angelica, a woman who has retreated to a convent in search of inner peace. However, the routine and repentance of monastic life are shattered when her past resurfaces in the form of devastating news from her estranged family.
With profound themes such as maternal love, the inner struggle with faith, and the desire for redemption, Suor Angelica captivates through its emotional depth and dramatic intensity. Puccini’s music, marked by haunting melodies and rich orchestration, elevates this opera to the status of a masterpiece that continues to move audiences across generations.

Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, the action of Puccini’s delightful comedy Gianni Schicchi is set in Florence in 1299. The story takes place in Donati’s bedroom just after his death, while his greedy relatives pretend to be in mourning and search for his will. The mood turns to rage when the relatives discover they have been disinherited. They seek out the clever and resourceful Schicchi to forge the will. However, Schicchi turns the plan against them, leaving the bulk of Donati’s estate to Donati, while the relatives, all party to the crime of forgery, are forced to stand by in silence.
