Opera in two acts, with a libretto in Italian by Lorenzo da Ponte
The action of Don Giovanni takes place in Seville, Spain, and follows the destiny of the legendary seducer Don Giovanni—a fascinating, impulsive, and charismatic figure whose immoral deeds inevitably lead him to a tragic end. Masterfully blending tragedy and comedy, the work brings to the forefront unforgettable characters such as Donna Elvira, marked by suffering and inner conflict, and Leporello, Don Giovanni’s servant, whose sharp and flavorful situational humor provides a vivid counterpoint to the drama.
The opera premiered in 1787 in Prague, conducted by the composer himself, and has since established itself as one of the absolute masterpieces of the universal operatic repertoire. Admired for the complexity of its musical construction and the psychological depth of its characters, Don Giovanni continues to captivate audiences through the timeless relevance of its themes and the expressive power of its music.
The performance includes one intermission and ends at approximately 10:00 PM.
The performance is sung in Italian, with Romanian surtitles.
