Recording made in partnership with TVR Cluj. Performance presented for in premiere on 03.02.2017

Ballet performance in seven scenes, inspired by the novel „Dama cu camelii” by Alexandre Dumas-son

The show Doar M … by Marguerite brings back on our stage the famous love story of the courtesan Marguerite Gautier, which she lives with the young Armand Duval, this time in a choreographic and directorial version signed by Livia Tulbure Gună, on the rhythms of the music of the Baia Mare composer Călin Ionce, in the scenography of Liliana Moraru.

The novelty of this new production, in addition to the actual language elements of modern ballet, lies in the perspective from which the events and the theme of the regeneration of the human condition through love and sacrifice are presented: that of a troubled M … (from Marguerite) and scared, alone in her room, before she died. The musical-choreographic journey from M.’s flashbacks will lead you, scene after scene, to the party in her living room – when Armand is introduced to her, in Marguerita’s bedroom – where the young man conquered her by the sincerity with which he declared his feelings in the country – in the idyllic setting where they lived their happiness until the appearance of George Duval (the father of her boyfriend) and her decision to sacrifice herself for the welfare of others, but also at the banquet where Armand humiliated her, unknowingly leaving her died of pain. You will have in front of her the ballerina M., expressing her regrets for the dishonorable lifestyle adopted before meeting true love, and the hope that her boyfriend will understand the noble reason why she left him.

There are also the other characters in Alexandre Dumas-son’s novel: The Count of G. (Marguerite’s protector and friend), the Old Duke (Marguerite’s main protector), Nanine (the maid) or Madame P. (from “Prudence”, an interested confidant). In order to further accentuate the decadent world from which Marguerite withdraws, Livia Tulbure Guna (to whom the stage adaptation of the subject also belongs) delimits the allegorical characters, such as “Ugliness”, “Degradation”, “Death”. “Nobody’s Youth” or the collective ones, obviously represented by the ensembles of ballerinas – “Past Ladies”, “Party Society” and “Scavengers”.

We invite you, therefore, to take part in a show in which the contemporary dance and theater-dance movements will take you along the inner transformations of M. – the courtesan saved by love!
