After more than three decades of existence crowned by unique appearances of established artists in the field of opera or the Romanian entertainment industry, but also by fruitful collaborations with societies and supporters of cultural events, the Opera Ball – one of the long-awaited annual events to the Cluj public – it returns, starting with this edition, under the aegis of the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca. And because we want to offer those present a real Viennese ball, the creative team – which brings together conductor Tiberiu Soare, directors Mihaela Bogdan and Petre Năstase, set designer Anca Pintilie and choreographers Pavel Rotaru, Felicia Șerbănescu, Nicu Toma and Oana Siminic – it will transpose you, through the means and artistic mastery at its disposal, into the bright ambiance of the dancing parties.

Also, given the fact that we are in the year of the Centenary of the Great Union, the theme of the Opera Ball 2018 emphasizes the cultural identity of our country, more precisely, the unity in diversity of material and spiritual values born in Romania which, although located at the confluence of three European regions – central, eastern and south-eastern – remain strongly individualized. We consider the evolution of the Romanian people during the assimilation of the influences of Slavic peoples (in Antiquity and the Middle Ages), Greeks (during the existence of the Byzantine Empire), Turks, Hungarians or Germans present in Transylvania, installed on the Daco-Roman background of civilization ours, but also the modern culture, outlined in the last centuries, according to the models transmitted from Western Europe, by the French and German spirit.

However, the 2018 Opera Ball is also an opportunity to celebrate the return to the community, one of the main desideratum of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, followed, by the way, at every curtain raising. In addition to the artistic program presented by the soloists, the orchestra and the ballet ensemble of the institution under the baton of guest conductor Tiberiu Soare, we plan many surprises, including wonderful festive moments to reward personalities who contribute to promoting Cluj culture. We would also like to show our support for the Transylvanian Opera Academy (TOA) – the Opera Academy that our institution set up in order to discover and develop young talents – to which we will direct part of the proceeds.
