sOpera performance in 4 acts by Giuseppe Verdi, after a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave
The twenty fourth opera written by Verdi, ”La Forza del Destino” has been presented as an absolute premiere the Imperial Opera House in Petersburg, on the 10th of November 1862, performed by renowned artists Barbot and Nantier-Didiée, Tamberlick, Graziani, De Bassini and Angelini, in the lead roles.
A first characteristic which must be mentioned regarding the novelty of this opera, viewed within the entire Verdian artistic creation, is the thrilling combination of wide extension, as well as short comic or tragic elements – the later having a pronounced share within the performance. This opera has an undeniable music force, a refined language, imposingly elaborated from a realist perspective.
These features are present from the first tones of the ouverture – which has become itself a famous concentrated piece, worldwide interpreted by grand orchestras. It is always listened to with the thrill of discovery by all those who are not yet familiar with this work of Verdi – a master of emotional melodies and lively passages. Beginning with the introductive stage, and until the curtain fall, the composer’s melodic invention is continuously overflowing, without a moment of tension decrease.
The individually and thoroughly constructed characters, the powerfully dramatic arias and duets all offer an eternal charm to the unique La forza del destino, to the public’s delight!
Recommended age: 12+
