Opera "Tannhäuser" is a three-act work with a libretto by Richard Wagner, inspired by the legend of the minstrels of Wartburg and the legend of the knight Tannhäuser.

"Tannhäuser" is one of Wagner's dramatic works that marks the transition from the traditional structure of the genre towards lyrical drama, which the German composer would later theorize in his essay "Opera and Drama" (1851). Richard Wagner (1813-1883), described by Friedrich Nietzsche as a musician among painters, a poet among musicians, and an artist among actors in "Beyond Good and Evil," redefined in his creation the expressive possibilities of opera, shaping the concept of "total art," applicable not only at a cultural-artistic level but also with strong echoes in the political sphere. Wagner believed that social progress could be achieved more through opera and poetry than through revolution.

His musical-dramatic creation draws inspiration from Nordic mythology, with heroes and legends symbolic of the German spirit and culture. "Tannhäuser," a work of romantic essence, temporally framed between the operas "The Flying Dutchman" (1843) and "Lohengrin" (1850), tells the journey of Tannhäuser from the supernatural world, dominated by the powers and charms of the goddess Venus, to the world of mortals, aiming for the salvation of his soul. His love for Elisabeth - the niece of the Landgrave of Thuringia - is the balancing element in his search for forgiveness and in the struggle against Venus' influence during moments of weakness. Failure to free himself from human limitations and to be absolved of guilt through his efforts initially leads Tannhäuser, disappointed, back to the mountain of Venus.

However, the appearance of the funeral procession from the valley of Wartburg castle, carrying the lifeless body of Elisabeth - the angel who prayed for her salvation - also brings about his death. At the end of the story experiences the miracle of forgiveness, brought about by the ultimate sacrifice, out of love.

The performance is in German with Romanian supratitration.
