INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OPERA APERTA 2025
The closing night of the Opera Aperta 2025 Festival transforms Union Square into a vast open-air opera house, hosting a moving and grand production of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi – one of the most profound love stories in the operatic canon.
Inspired by Alexandre Dumas fils’ novel The Lady of the Camellias, La Traviata tells the tragic tale of Violetta Valéry – a refined courtesan, condemned by social prejudice and a cruel illness, yet capable of deep sacrifice and true love. Verdi’s music wraps the story in an emotionally rich soundscape: from the exuberance of Act I’s waltzes, to the intimacy of Addio del passato, and the devastating drama of the final act.
Through its beautiful score, powerful characters, and the conflict between ideals and reality, La Traviata remains not only a jewel of Italian opera but also a timeless story about fragility, dignity, and love.
This production by the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca promises an unforgettable evening where voice, orchestra, and emotion touch every soul.
The performance is interpreted in Italian with Romanian supertitles.
