description
show category: ballet, matinee
La Fille mal gardée is a comic ballet in two acts, inspired by a painting from 1765 by Pierre-Antoine Baudouin. The original choreography was created by Jean Dauberval, and the work premiered in 1789 in Bordeaux, France.
It is one of the oldest and most important works in the ballet repertoire, frequently reinterpreted throughout its history. La Fille mal gardée has undergone several changes in title and score, and today it is presented in two main versions: one Russian and one British.
For the performance by the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca, the choreographer based the production on Jean Dauberval’s original libretto, with musical support from composers Peter Ludwig Hertel and Ferdinand Hérold, providing the work with new choreography and narrative that is more aligned with the current context.
The performance includes an intermission and ends around 1:00 PM.
